Position Description

 

Position Title: Director of Manufacturing
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: President and General Manager

                

 

Position Summary

Directs and oversees all manufacturing operations, including production, maintenance, and all logistics and supply chain management functions (i.e. shipping, receiving, inventory, purchasing and scheduling).  Meets performance objectives related to safety, productivity, quality, delivery and cost through the effective management and utilization of equipment, facilities and personnel.  Monitors plant expenditures and budgets.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Serve as an active member of Senior Staff.
  2. Help develop and implement short-term and long-term strategic plans.
  3. Manage and lead all assigned personnel.  Provide appropriate coaching, training and development for employees.
  4. Work with other departments to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.  Collaborate with departments such as Sales, Engineering and Account Management to determine feasibility of products and projects.
  5. Determine appropriate headcount / staffing needs.
  6. Manage policy deployment and procedures in the areas of Lean manufacturing (continuous improvement), quality, cost, complete and on time delivery, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations, visual controls and plant performance.
  7. Oversee facility maintenance and improvements, and develop appropriate plans for capital expenditures related to equipment upgrades and/or replacement.
  8. Continuously research and implement cost savings measures related to materials, labor and processes.
  9. Ensure compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations.
  10. Establish an organizational culture that results in the attraction and retention of top talent, fosters high employee job satisfaction and morale, and adds to the organization’s bottom line.
  11. Develop appropriate policies and procedures that support the organization’s values, mission, goals and strategic plans.
  12. Assist with the implementation of training programs for the purpose of improving the quality of employee performance.
  13.   Provide regular updates to company leaders and other management team members.
  14. Support and uphold the company’s mission and values.
  15. Demonstrate professional maturity and high levels of discretion, integrity and ethical behavior.
  16. Be courteous, positive and customer-focused and display an orientation toward teamwork.
  17. Work in a safe manner.
  18. Understand, embrace and adhere to the continuous improvement principles (e.g. Lean).
  19. Maintain an acceptable attendance record.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

  1. Bachelor degree in manufacturing, business, engineering or a related field or equivalent experience.
  2. Ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment, as well as knowledge and experience in metal fabrication, with assembly and paint lines.
  3. Demonstrated experience and knowledge of continuous improvement principles and techniques.
  4. Three years mid to upper-level management experience and a demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
  5. Demonstrated success with maintaining high levels of safety, quality, productivity and on-time delivery.
  6. Knowledge of engineering processes.
  7. Fundamental knowledge of logistics (scheduling and delivery) and supply chain management (materials, purchasing and inventory).
  8. Thorough knowledge and understanding of state and federal employment regulations.
  9. Organizational skills.
  10. Coaching, mentoring and employee development skills.
  11. Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
  12. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  13. Ability to comprehend the dynamics and sensitivity of an organization’s culture and the ability to solve related problems.
  14. Computer literacy, including the ability to word process, utilize software applications and use electronic mail.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms.  The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Minimal travel and/or driving is required.  Noise levels are typically low to moderate.
